It’s FriYAY, which means I’m celebrating the weekend early and daydreaming about the adventures to come. Tomorrow, we are headed to a Naval ship commissioning in Philadelphia with my parents and plan to top the weekend off with apple picking and “pumpkin patching” in Virginia. Since moving to the East Coast, we love taking advantage of how easy (and quick!) it is to drive between states.
As part of Breast Cancer Awareness month, I’m joining Fit Approach and AfterShokz in their #AwareWithPink campaign to help educate and drive awareness about breast cancer. For every unit sold on aftershokz.com through October 31st, 2016, AfterShokz will donate 25% of proceeds to Bright Pink, a non-profit that focuses on breast and ovarian cancer awareness and action. Every time #AwareWithPink is used on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram, AfterShokz will donate an additional 25 cents to Bright Pink.
This week’s Friday Five is inspired by the campaign. Fit Approach released the prompt, and I play the game. Here are FIVE things that make me feel aware and empowered #AwareWithPink style!
Can’t Stop the Feeling!
We usually start our mornings listening to classical music and then wind down with oldies in the evening (Will’s choice, not mine). I’m definitely more of a pop/Top 10 Hits kind of gal and could listen to Justin Timberlake’s Can’t Stop the Feeling on repeat, but I am learning to expand my musical taste. The most wonderful part about my AfterShokz Trekz Titanium Pink (!!) headphones is that they are so versatile! I can run, lift, bike, and explore without the hassle of cords getting in the way of my performance. They go beyond my workouts too, when I use them during conference calls or while FaceTiming my best friends (long-distance over here!) and simultaneously whipping up something delicious and healthy in the kitchen. If multi-tasking while listening to Beyonce isn’t empowering, I don’t know what is…
Will also took the headphones for a test drive. I caught him checking himself out with his stylish headphones on below. They passed the test, even if they were a little too pink for his taste.
Run the World (Girls)
It’s going to be a busy October! This month, I’m participating in If Girls Ran the World and joining thousands of women to virtually run and raise money for charities around the globe. I’m fundraising for Girls on the Run DC, an organization that has stolen my heart because of the amazing women and girls involved in it! I currently coach a Girls on the Run Heart & Sole team, a 5k after-school training program for 6-8th graders. It’s so important to encourage and instill confidence at a young age. This dad got it right by telling his little girl positive affirmations every morning.
Self-care is so important! For me, that means eating healthy, staying active, and taking care of my body. Saturday night face masks have become a favorite part of my weekly skin routine (Will’s too!). I’d post a picture as proof, but this blog might cease to exist if he found out.
Barefoot Blue Jean Night
I love wearing my prAna Kara Jeans and Mattea sweater (see Monday’s post). I’ve found so many ways to mix it up. Wearing something comfy and cute means I’m ready for any activity at any moment. When I’m equipped or outfitted with the right accessories, clothes, etc., I’m up for any adventure!
Who’s that Girl?
My mom arrived in D.C. on Wednesday, and it’s been so fun to explore with her. She inspires and motivates me every day. I’ll never stop admiring this selfless, kind, outgoing woman and hope that I can be both her twin in looks & personality (and yes, I threw on my outfit wayyy after her just so we could be twins for the day).
We’re off to have a girl’s day. Have a wonderful, inspiring, fun-filled weekend!
