Fit Friday Five: Brownies & Activewear

Fit Friday Five: Brownies & Activewear

Fit Friday Five is the newest addition to my blog! I’m starting this bi-weekly series to introduce my favorite health and fitness finds to my readers. Here are five things I’m loving this week…

Macro Counting: I started macro counting ~1 month ago. What are macros? Macronutrients (or macros) make up the caloric content of food, which includes three categories: protein, fat, and carbs. By tracking these three macronutrients (via MyFitnessPal), you optimize your diet for your fitness goals, whether that’s losing, gaining, or maintaining weight. From my experience, I can tell you that it has been much more efficient than tracking calories. I used MacroGal to calculate my macros, and I’m loving that I am on track to reach my weight loss goals and still enjoying the things I love – like a Baked & Wired strawberry cupcake every now and then. Black Bean Brownies: While I do love a yummy cupcake or almond croissant, I eat gluten-free, sugar-free, and dairy-free 98% of the time, which is why I love this recipe for black bean brownies. Guiltless chocolate dessert? I’m in! I promise — you won’t taste the beans, and the extra protein is just what our bodies need. TIP: For portion control, I like to make mine in a muffin pan, and yes, Chocolate Covered Katie provides the nutritional details for all of your macro-counting needs.

Ellie Activewear: Ellie is a monthly subscription service that sends you 5 amazing activewear items for $49.95/month. This month’s shiny rose gold box included a pair of cute black capris, a stylish sports bra, a lightweight gray workout tank, stress balls, and an armband for my phone, which Will immediately put to use! I love seeing how Ellie gals wear their gear – at the gym, running errands, or during a fun, outdoor yoga adventure. You can see my outfit below.

Healthy Nail Polish: I really struggle with eczema (a dry, itchy rash that can appear OUT OF NOWHERE) and recently went to the dermatologist to clear this up. While we were talking, he told me that the chemicals used in nail polish can actually trigger an allergic reaction (yikes!). Once I started researching my favorite nail polish brands, I discovered they had so many toxic ingredients, including dibutyl phthalate (DBP), toluene, and formaldehyde. These ingredients can cause reproductive problems, dizziness, rashes, and more. After a lot of Amazon and Google research, I ordered Ella + Mila, and I’m hooked. The polish dries quickly and my nails look great! I highly recommend the Love Collection in Honeymoon Bliss. TIP: If you’re doing your own nail polish hunt, look for brands that are 5-free or 7-free, which means they are free of the most common toxic ingredients.

Stress-free Supplement: When I’m overly anxious or excited, I have trouble sleeping. I’ve found that 2 tsp. of Natural Calm, a magnesium supplement, mixed with water before I go to bed helps me relax and get a good night’s rest. Magnesium helps regulate muscle and nerve function, blood sugar levels, and blood pressure — meaning it calms you down! I prefer the lemon flavor. Have you tried it? What flavor do you like?

What is one thing you recently started doing to live a healthier life?

I was gifted Ellie Activewear. However, all opinions are my own. Thank you for supporting the brands that support my blog — and my workouts!

How do you like Ellie? I keep seeing ads on Facebook lol and wondered if it’s worth the price. I get eczema, too! I rarely paint my nails, but that’s really good to know! I had no idea nail polish could do that. Are you finding counting macros easy? I tried it and was just SO confused! lol

I’m loving my Ellie activewear. With all of the goodies I get in the box, I think it’s worth the price. This month’s box was much more suited for yoga (softer materials), but previous boxes have had activewear perfect for a sweaty workout.
Ah, so you can totally relate to my eczema stitch. There are so many things that trigger it, but I’ve found that using more natural nail polishes helps!
Macro counting is so good. Check out the article I linked and follow @cguentz on Instagram. She breaks it down a lot. It’s obviously easier to track packaged foods, but if you have a scale and measuring cup, you can track anything with MyFitnessPal!

Ellie seems so cute! Love the outfit you got! And thanks for the recommendations of better nail polish – the amount of chemicals in them makes me nervous, so it’s nice to have better options.
